I have 2 wool sisal area rugs in our home near the beach. I have had issues with them getting a mildewy odor during the real humid months. While rubber backed, I do have rug pads under them to help with air circulation. I regularly washed the backing and the wood floor under the rugs to try to eliminate the odor. To no avail. I started searching for ways to clean wool sisal and found this product on a retail carpet/flooring website specifically recommended for wool sisal. So I purchased the kit through Amazon. I did not have any stains so I followed the directions to brush in the cleaner using the brush provided. And the brush head does fit on reg household mop or brush handle. Very easy to brush in to the sisal. I don’t know if would be more of a production on a rug with higher pile or berber. It is a little like damp saw dust in color and texture. It dried in about an hr and then I vacuumed it. The rugs appear brighter and fibers fresher. The mildew smell is gone. I gave it overall 4 stars because I’m not crazy about the scent. It doesn’t really smell like anything but I thought it should and could have a fresher cleaner scent. But that is not a deterrent. I used my cheaper bagless vacuum and had to replace the filter and wash the canister after sucking up all the dried powder. So factor that in. I have a stretched canvas poster that has absorbed some of the mildew smell and I am going to try it on that. Overall this does work and I recommend it.My wife and I bought a beautiful sisal rug from Pottery Barn a couple of years ago. Unfortunately we have a cat that likes to run to this rug whenever she needs to throw up. Barf is a little tricky to clean up because it's solid mixed with liquid and the solid parts get trapped in the fibers, so it's a little harder to simply soak up with a white cloth. My first few mistakes left some light spots here and there, that's because I was too aggressive with the brush that came included. My last attempt actually turned out pretty well. The cat did a huge barf and I was able to make it look like nothing had ever happened.Contrary to what the instructions tell you, on a Sisal rug you do not want to "brush" the rug at all otherwise you'll get some slight discoloration. You want to carefully clean up as much as you can and try to soak up as much liquid as you can with a cloth without rubbing or brushing anything. Then put a good blob of the dry cleaning material directly over the spot and press it in with your thumb. Then I use the brush more like a hammer and tap the material into the rug with the bristles. Be generous as the liquid will soak to the top, which is a good thing. Wait a couple of hours and vacuum off the top layer and let whatever is left to dry for as long as needed. Do another vaccuum and use the brush to carefully clean out the remainder. With a little practice, this product will work wonders. The other thing that makes this product great is they give you a very generous amount. You won't run out for quite a long time, unless you have a million pets - in which case I wouldn't recommend buying nice rugs.I should have reviewed this product a year ago when I first bought it, but now I can give a more accurate review after using it half a dozen times. In our house, we have hardwoods and seagrass "carpet"- basically natural grass floors in each room. It is widely known that getting stains out of seagrass is impossible. I bought the Host kit in a panic when our lab had diarrhea and peed on our new 20x18 living room seagrass rug that was custom made. (sorry for the visual) I had it overnighted via prime and didn't touch the stains other than to remove ' bulk". (gross). When it arrived the next day I put the spot remover in a spray bottle to get the area wet for the shaker powder, which resembles sawdust. I used the scrub brush that came with the set to get the product deep into the fibers of the rug, then let the granules sit for 4-5 hours, until it looked lighter in color and dry. When I vacuumed I couldn't believe it. The stains were gone. Even my husband couldn't tell exactly where they had been. I used the end of the jar this morning when I spilled freshly made kale and celery juice, straight from the juicer. All I can say is that the color is dark green and it is full of pulp and fiber. The stain covered 2 sq ft of seagrass. I just vacuumed it up after letting the Host sit on it for 6 hours, and it's gone. The very next thing I did was order another kit. I will never be out of this product again!I have owned several natural jute rugs and having 2 small dogs in the house can be an issue as my rugs are placed in front of doors. One of our dogs has a touchy stomach and as she is running to the door to be let out to throw up she has a tendency to only make it as far as the rug before I can get her out the door. I have ruined a number of rugs by trying to clean them with either soap and water or other carpet cleaning products but when you use those on jute rugs a large stain is always left behind.I knew better than to buy a larger, more expensive jute rug for our front door but I loved it so I went ahead and purchased the rug. We have had the rug a couple of years with no issues but then our dog once again did not make it out the door without throwing up on the rug. I immediately went to Amazon and found this product and purchased it and paid for overnight shipping to get to the stain asap. The package was lost in the mail (I have never had that happen before with Amazon) so after several days of not finding the package they sent me out a new product. Well now we are almost a week out since the incident with more time for the stain to set in. Once I received the product I was amazed at how easy it was to use and to my surprise and excitement it took out every bit of the stain!!!!!This stuff is wonderful! So happy to have found it, I think I may go ahead and buy a room size jute rug.Easy to use but the only problem with this kit is the hole on the brush was slightly too small for a standard handle from another broom or mop. Not sure if my brush was just a bad brush or if they are all like this. Thankfully I just happen to have another brush with a handle that I was able to use instead. I sprinkled the product onto my rug, brushed it and I let it sit for 3 hours (mostly because I had to leave). It vacuumed up very easily and I am pleased with the results. The white areas on my area rugs aren't dingy looking anymore but nice and clean. I have enough to clean my area rug once more time again in the future and after that I will buy more of this product.Have not really given it a workout, but instructions are clear and comprehensive, and the spot remover worked very well for me.Used it twice - works super
